Default My windshield has light scrathes. Somebody please HELP!!!!!

I have a 03 Altima, it has some light scrathes on the windshield. I guess the guy that had the car before used the wipers when the window was dry. Is there anything that I can use to get the light scrathes off the windshield with? You cant feel the scrathes but they get to be a pain when I am driving and the sun is hitting the windshield. I would rather try getting the scrathes out then to pay 200$ for a windshield. Thanks for any information that anybody can give.

I called Safelite and they told me just to buy a new windshield. That would be fine if I just had the money laying around....lol.

I figured they have some type of gel or something to fill the little scratches

Thats what I thought. My family and I are going to Fl. this comming up weekend and I am sure it will be sunny there, when the sun hits the window it really brings out the scrathes. Its not to bad at night. I agree with you I thought they would have some kind of gel or some thing that I could use.

You can use a gel injection on a small area, it's not designed to cover small scratch imperfections. If the windsheild is scratched from top to bottom you really don't have much choice. Have you tried calling your insurance to see if they can cover windsheild damage?

I have thought about calling my insurance but with it just being light scrathes I did not know if they would cover it or not. I might call them monday.

yeah I'm not sure if those DIY windshield repair kits will do long scratches as they usually fill up only small holes about to become larger holes or cracks.

Have you tried using a polishing compound on it?

I am going on the premise from back in my army days when my brass belt buckle got a scratch you could see and feel. About an hour of hand polishing with Brasso completely removed the scratch. Now I am not saying use Brasso, I was just giving you the idea behind polishing.

To work on glass, you will need polishing compound, jeweler's rouge or whitening toothpaste (gel toothpaste does not work). Using a lambs wool buffing pad you can either buff the scratch by hand using a circular motion or with an electric buffer on medium speed.

If you are willing to spend a little more cash there is Eastwood’s Professional Wind Shield/Headlight Kit for $49.99

Good luck
