Problems at the Vent Valve are usually from the rubber o-ring around the valve and not the valve itself. However, a lot of the same codes you get from a leaky VCV can also be caused by a cracked canister or a leaky or blocked hose, or even a bad gas cap. On the other hand, if it's an electrical "hard code" like P0447, that almost always means a wiring problem when a new valve doesn't fix it. It will help if you post what the code is.
 
P0448 is usually from a flooded or full canister, although it can also be from a blockage in the canister plumbing. If you don't find water draining from the canister when you take it down, weigh it. Limit is 4.6 lbs, if it exceeds that then it's saturated and needs to be replaced.
