So I picked up my Car and Driver Mag in the mail yesterday and took a look at it when I got to work. I saw a segment about the top 25 cars worth waiting for and to my surprise, I found the 2013 Altima in the number 3 spot.

Im not a huge fan of the looks but Im sure not many were fans of the 4th gens look to when it was first shown.
Both engines will now be direct injected. The 2.5 will now have an estimated 200 hp and an unanswered v6 power. Im guessing 280-300 cause of competition with other family sedans around that area and some even pushing over 300hp now. A 6speed manual WILL be offered on BOTH engines standard. A CVT will be a option. The Coupe has not been mentioned and the hybrid will return soon. Might be added in before launch but Im guessing a year for one to come like the coupe. Its big main competition I see is the new Fusion.

I read that article too. It wasn't clear weather they were going to continue their offering of the six speed with the coupe only (as they currently do) or offer again with the 4 door. The whole article was just a little to vague for my liking. Thanks for posting though. Their rendering seems to be a 4th gen with Maxima headlights. Looking forward to seeing the real thing.

Watcha all think? This is what I am really close to pulling the trigger on^^

I am surprised that there isn't more buzz in this thread about this car. This is an Altima forum and this is the newest generation.

What do you all know about it that a potential owner might benefit from? Something that isn't on the glossy Nissan web page? What should I look for as a warning sign if I do get one? Has the precat engine failure been fixed on these cars?

Any firm release date? All I can get from the dealer is in a couple three months or so.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this car looks extremely ugly? I think the front looks ok (I love the headlights, but the grille is huge). The back looks like they were copying the maxima but had to squish it to fit the width of the Altima. Something just doesn't look right about it. I'll stick with my 2012 thanks you.

I think it will grow on folks just like most new car redesigns. Incidentally I am not really buying it for the styling. I am buying it for the 38mpg, new engine with variable timing on the intake and exhaust and the new version of the cvt. It is also supposed to be much more quiet. With "The nicest interior we have ever put in an Altima" Or words to that effect. If I had a 2012 I wouldn't mess with it either, but for us choosing between the 12 or the new 13 it was a no brainer.

Well after delay after delay the car is finally in at the dealership. We won't be able to get it until Monday too busy. I was getting very frustrated actually. First is was because we ordered the Nav package. Then it was the undercarriage lights. Then the interior lights. Then a recall about a bolt in the steering column. It was supposedly built and sitting at the factory waiting for the bolt to fix it. Now it is in but the Nissan manager said it doesn't have the undercarriage lights or the interior lights. WTF They say they will put them on the car later on.

I have the vin -- how would I check by the vin to see if it was actually ordered on the car? I called Nissan corporate earlier and they said if it was ordered on the car it wouldn't leave the factory without it which conflicts with what the dealership said.

I hope so. They called today and said my vpp number was expired and could I change the time window I gave them for us to pick up the car. Then he tried to talk us out of the nifty color changing interior lights. He can't seem to find the ones that have the control knob. I am just on the edge of getting from annoyed to mad.

Well we picked up the car today:)

A couple of first impressions on our first Nissan.
It is way more quiet than the old Malibu and a fair amount more quiet than the 2012 we test drove before we ordered this 2013. I think it even nudges out my 2009 Camry and I even put a little dynamat in the doors, impressive!

The seats are very comfy -- thank you NASA. The Bose system has a better front sound stage than any stock system I have ever heard by far. The leg room is the most I have ever had and equal to any car I have sat in with the seat all the way back. The Nav ticked me off that you can't adjust it from the passenger seat when the car is moving. The seat belt and air bags know if you are in the passenger seat why can't the nav? The backup camera is not as good as the $16 chepo I put in my Camry:(

We are still waiting for the under body lights and the interior lights with control knob. The dealer has done the ground lights but not the interior lights I hope they can work it out we will see. I have already paid for the ground lights, he sold them at his invoice with no install charge $194. This is in addition to the sticker.

To whoever wants to know what the vpp will do for you take the sticker and add $194. I paid after vpp and before tax $28,364 so it saved me around $2500. In today's world with the tighter margins I am happy with that. I don't know if it is worth that but time will tell. Window tint and 3m wrap to happen on Wendsday.

Old hotness--- :rofl2:

Yeah but really for 11 years later not that bad. They were both loaded but the Altima is a more solid feeling car, as it should be. I have to say I have been very impressed with how the Malibu held up to newer cars even brand new in the mpg and acceleration etc. It wasn't a bad car. I was disappointed with the amount of work we had to have done to it though, seeing as we bought it new and took care of it. It was a major reason we got a new car, we had just lost confidence in it as a totally reliable car. It is the wife's car and I didn't wan't to have to worry about it when I am working 1000 miles away as I sometimes do.

I do find it interesting that the discounts on both cars were about the same even though they were 11 years apart and almost 10k on the sticker price. As I remember we paid a little under 19k for the Malibu.

Well I have played around with the nav unit a little. I decided to go to Branson this weekend. I must say the routing options suck. You can't just touch the map to add a way point when you want to change its routing. You have to search for a street address. This makes it fairly useless. I thought o well I will try out the Google send to car option. I went inside and set up the route just how I wanted and sent it. I went to the car and got it all downloaded into the unit. It then says calculating and wiped out the google route and put the same screwy route back in.

It says it is 329miles on the nav but a google map on the computer says 529 by its screwy routing. I know what the fastest route is I have driven there many times. So now I can not trust it for anything. Yes I went into the options and adjusted all the routing options and this helped. It got it a lot closer but still not the best way.

I just go down 400 to Baxter Springs and catch 44 at the Casino. It cuts a solid 2 1/2 hours off of the trip. The closest google or the car came up with is still about an hour longer.

It is very frustrating to me that a several thousand dollar option can not do better than this. I always wondered if these factory nav units were worth the money and I have to say no. Not when you have google maps with you everywhere on your phone. Its saving grace is you always know your location and you don't need a cell connection as it has everything in the unit. So it is still useful but just as a backup reference.

I went to the dealership for the cars first service this morning. I looked at a couple new rides while I was waiting. The Juke is smaller than I thought and cheap inside. The Cadillac was b***** but way overpriced for what you could get with a Corvette motor in it.
Edit: had them fill it with Mobil one 0w20 and filled up the tank after the 140 mile trip. 37.1mpg at 70mph so far so good:)
