Backup Camera Install Advice

I have a 2009 Nissan Altima that I bought used about three years ago. It is a nice one, with a Bose stereo system, 6-CD changer, auto everything, a really nice car that is enjoyable to drive. It does not have a backup camera though and I have thought about getting one for a long time. I wanted to ask if anyone has any first-hand knowledge or know how about buying a backup camera, and for this car. I don't have much knowledge about backup cameras and am having to kind of figure out what is good and what isn't. And with this car being somewhat aged, it might be difficult to find one that will work properly. I just don't know.

There really isn't place to put the display, except maybe on the door of the storage compartment at the lower front of the console. It would have to able to swing up whenever I open the door. I don't want to get rid of this storage compartment. The only other place I can think of would be to put it on the cowl, centered under the mirror. I also need to decide which camera to buy, something that would work on a 2009 model. I have two on my Amazon wishlist that I am considering - Wireless Backup Camera Ease Install - Color Image HD 1080P 5 Inch Monitor Digital Signal Stable No-Delay Bluetooth Rear View Camera Auto-Switching Night Vision for Truck/Car/Pickup/SUV/Camper - LK2 and also AUTO-VOX Solar 1 Wireless Backup Camera for Car, 5Mins DIY Installation, Back Up Camera System Wireless with Digital Signal, License Plate Rearview Camera with 5" Monitor for Trucks/Trailer/RV ( can't put in the links since this is my first post-the site blocks my post with links) . There are others of course, and I haven't forgotten that you get what you pay for.

If anyone knows anything about what to consider for a dashcam and which ones to consider that might work on the 2009 Altima, I would appreciate any advice, information, anything at all.

I installed one on my 2009 2.5S, but the radio display was going out so I was replacing the head unit with an aftermarket JVC that has Android Auto and inputs for a backup camera. I'm not sure what the options are if you want to keep the OEM radio. You might also find a rear view mirror with the built-in screen for a backup camera. Might require some extra wiring. Maybe the easiest is the add-on wireless system you mention. Probably depends on what you want to spend and how you want it to look when it's done.

Thanks for the reply. I like the way yours turned out. The radio is a Bose as I mentioned, and sounds darn good. So, I'm not inclined to get rid of it I hate to say. The mirror itself is a what I might call a 'high tech' mirror that is pretty thick. The mirror shows the direction of travel, auto dims so I don't have to worry about blinding lights in the reflection, and a lot of other things I've never bothered to explore. It's got several buttons on the bottom and one of these days I'll actually pull out the manual and see what other things this mirror will do. It's on my mental list. I think I'm probably going to have to end up jerry-rigging up something. If that's what I end up doing, so be it. I'll keep on mulling what I want to do.
