So heres my situation. I have two brothers, both are getting loans for new cars. One is getting a Cobalt SS, the other is getting a 350z. What turbo kit should I use to keep up with these cars. Initially I thought I had 8,000 to spend, but now its down to 3,000. Im open to any suggestions. Thanks.

It won't without some upgrades. I would suggest looking at setups for a sentra spec-v since it uses the same QR25DE engine. You can always just get a nitrous system for a lot cheaper, I've got one waiting to get put on mine lol

The Sentra Spec V turbo kit seems like a great option. I have everyone telling me not to turbo my car since its an Automatic. What do you guys think? Is there that much of a difference in speed between automatic and Manual? Ive only drove automatic.

The 2.5s use the same automatic transmission as the v6, ours have about 175hp at the crank, the 3.5s have what? Like 245? (notsure lol) So I would think it would be able to handle the extra power with no problem.

^Especially with the transgo shift kit...that would be so nice with a turbo. Fast shifts. Mike on here could give you more info on that, although I think he had some troublewith his transgo kit.

You seem like you know what youre talking about kyle. Can you tell me how much hp I should expect to get from the Spec V turbo kit, how much installation cost would be, and if I'd need a whole new exhaust sytem? Sorry for the questions man, I know almost nothing about cars. That's why im here.

I don't know much either lol sorry. The best info you will find is just searching and learning. Mainly search for the sentra since alot more turbos have been added to them rather than an altima haha.

What I've found with the QR25DE is around 280hp is where things start to break on stock internals is what the sentra guys claim. Idk if that's wheel or crank. A turbo'd 2.5 would be a nice little sleeper

I would never turbo with the terrible 4spd that comes with the 06 2.5. Yes the transmission was mated to a v6 for the 02-04 years, but having gone through a transmission and a transgo kit, it just won't last. You can rebuild your transmission with stronger components from Level10. You can even buy an entire built transmission from them.

$3,000 will probably buy you a turbo kit, but then you need to have it installed. I would expect you to double your budget for install and tuning.

If you're looking for more power, trade your 4cyl with the 4spd in for a 05-06 3.5 with a 5spd manual. You'll have all the power you'll need. I bet you'd be able to trade yours, add $3,000 and be in to one with nothing outstanding.

SFR was the site I looked at when I was going to do a turbo. But the cost was just too much for me to justify. $5k for the turbo, then there's engine management for $500, tuning would be at least $600, transmission upgrades for $1k.

I could save by going with a simple thing like an SAFC II and leaving the transmission, but then why bother with something as big as a turbo. But a turbo'd AT would be nice because there would be perfect shifts every time.

really wish I could get a turbo kit for 3k. But Im not fully sure it'll stand up to a 350z. Does anyone know what PSI you can run on the Altima without having to get go aftermarket on fuel injectors, flywheel, etc.
it depends on which year you're talking about.. 02-06 qr25 can handle about 275hp before the crank, pistons, trans, etc.. would start to give out. 07-up could handle more due to upgraded crank, pistons, intake manifold, etc.. no ones really pushed the limits of the manual trans in the 07-up models though.

for the 3.5 models.. they can handle quite a bit more stock as long as you have the manual trans.. the auto transmissions in altimas suck :)
