2016 Altima with a P0776 error code. It sporadically loses power when accelerating. The dealership claims the transmission needs to be replaced for $6k. I took it to a transmission shop because I've read about people having luck with a simple fluid change; however, the shop recommends not changing the CVT fluid because it has more detergents than any other fluid in the car. They said as my transmission is heating up the detergents are breaking down and this could create more problems. Thoughts or suggestions?

The person in that transmission shop is an idiot.

The FIRST thing to do when those CVT transmissions start acting up, shuttering, losing power.., is to change the transmission fluid.

I had the very same problem you are describing, and I called Nissan USA in Tennessee, and they suggested I take the car to a Nissan dealer, YES the dealer, and have them do a transmission service; cost $149.95 BEFORE my military discount.

My 2016 SV never had transmission problems again, and I now have over 160K on the car, and will do one more transmission service.

Try this FIRST before spending big bucks on a transmission.

Good luck!
Thank you. Would you recommend a flush or just the change?
