***WARNING*** This kit is designed to have all parts installed. Failing to do so may result in serious transmission damage. Read on to find out all the info.

Look what the mail dragged in!

I'll use this thread to update on progress. I'm hoping to get it done in the next couple of weeks. Just want to get it done.

I've done all the reading I can on the 2-3 flaring issue and it seems to be narrowed down to the valve body and/or 3rd gear clutch pack seal. From other users that have installed it, it seems to have taken care of their flaring issue by just installing the valve body upgrade part of the kit. If after the VB upgrade I'm still experiencing flaring then we'll drop the tranny and install the rest of the kit which requires a tear down.

Judging by the instructions that came with the kit, it should be pretty straight forward. There are a few channels that need to be drilled out and there are some really small parts that would be easy to lose, but otherwise seems straight forward.

From others experience, I'm expecting 1st to 2nd gear to be pretty harsh at roughly half throttle. At full throttle it should peel the tires going into second. The other shifts should be stiff but quick and put you right into the power band in the next gear. I'm looking forward to being done.

So with the expected harsh shifts is there any other areas of the car that would need to be addressed ie: bushings/ mounts.

Not necessarily. We'll have a look at the condition of my mounts and if they're in good shape we'll leave them alone. I don't know that the kit would have any adverse effects on them anyway.

I put this kit in my 01' mustang (when I had it) and it sure makes a difference in shifts. They will be hard shifts and it is recommended to upgrade any transmission mounts to withstand them. What is perfect along with this kit is a high stall torque converter.

I hear you about the TC, but it's not really in the cards right now. I've read through Chris' friend stormz install with a high stall and it sounds really interesting.

My number 1 goal is to get rid of the flaring, the rest is a bonus. I'll strongly consider updating my tranny mount though.

This install is going to be a little different then I thought. After discussing this my my dad (yes it's nice having a "class a" as dad and brother), we're going to drop the valve body next Thursday night. He's then going to take the valve body home and work on it there. That way he'll be able to take his time and not be interrupted by his employees and work in general. If all goes smoothly we should have this done by next Friday. I would have liked to document this right from start to finish, but I'm at the mercy of the guy doing the work. I'll be sure to write-up, take pictures and videos where I can.

I'm not sure exactly what the cause is, but the symptom has progressed through the resistor mod. It could be a result of the cold, but I'm not willing to suffer 6 months of the year. The worst part is my wife won't drive it, or drive in it at the moment so we always have to take her car which is a Toyota.

It's not that bad, it's just if anything feels out of the ordinary it makes her uncomfortable. That's one of the main reasons we're doing this install, for her comfort level. The performance benefit is a bonus.

She drives an 01 Highlander suv. It's a nice car, but I prefer to drive mine.

My old man is going to do it on his day off tomorrow. He loves this sort of thing, so I don't feel terrible about asking him for his time. I should hopefully have the car back tomorrow, barring any major complications.

The brown fluid is a result of the slipping. When the clutches slip they tend to produce a sut that results in very dirty fluid.

I had last had a service in early summer. It was not due for a service for quite a while.

I'm a little concerned that my transmission is damaged to the point that this VB upgrade isn't going to solve my issue. If this doesn't do the trick then we'll purchase a used tranny or have mine rebuilt. But, I'll have to see how it is when it's done.

It's done! My dad called me last night when he got home with it, (he actually worked on it yesterday at work), and he was really impressed with the result. He said first to second is the fimest and the rest are a nice solid, firm shift. He said he took his time, but was pretty anxious with the amount of holes he had to drill and check balls that were moved or left out.

It should be dropped off to me again today sometime, but I won't be able to drive it 'till after work, so my driving impressions will have to wait. It's also snowing right now so the performance aspect of it will have to wait as well.
